    Tongseng is a type of soupy meat curry-like dish with stronger spices. Tongseng generally uses mutton, although there are also beef, lamb or buffalo tongseng. In addition, vegetables such as cabbage, garlic, tomatoes, and sweet soy sauce are added to the thick gravy. The seasoning is oseng-oseng or stir-fry consisting of a mixture of salt, garlic, soy sauce and pepper. Usually tongseng is sold together with goat satay. Tongseng is considered a specialty of Solo, Klaten, Yogyakarta, Magelang and surrounding areas (all in Central Java Province). However, some argue that tongseng originated from the Klego area in Boyolali, Central Java Province. There is also a variation of tofu shredded meat tongseng in Kebumen, Central Java Province.
