Nasi Krawu was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Government as Gresik, East Java's Original Culinary.
Nasi krawu (Javanese: sega krawu) is a specialty from Gresik, East Java Province. It is characterized by its fluffy rice and served with banana leaves. Side dishes include beef cutlet, meat stew, beef offal, sambal petis, and serundeng. The "sambal terasi" (chili paste) served with krawu rice has a distinctive spicy flavor.
Krawu rice was originally a development of Madurese rice, but nowadays it is very different from the Madurese rice on Madura Island, East Java Province. That is because krawu rice in Gresik has experienced many developments that adjust to the tastes of the tongue of the people of Gresik.
